Protecting the Campus Community

Psychologists and other mental health counselors on staff follow strict ethical and legal codes of confidentiality. Confidentiality is broken if there is a determination of imminent threat.

Imminent Danger/Imminent Threat – A serious threat of life threatening injury or harm to self or others highly probable in the next 24 hours.

The clinician will follow guidelines to assess the situation and consult with the director, other clinicians, or psychiatric staff to determine an appropriate course of action.

  • If threat is imminent, the clinician will contact appropriate legal or medical authorities in order to ensure the student’s safety and the safety of others.
  • If threat is not imminent or present, then a safety plan and treatment plan will be provided to the student.
