For fall 2020, University Housing will maintain a high level of service and offer the amenities that students expect. Housing staff are committed to providing its residents with a safe place to call home.
Our plans for campus housing this coming fall are based upon guidance from CDC, state and local agencies. All of our campus housing will be operating at full capacity, including our residence halls, for incoming students who are interested in a residential experience. All campus housing consists of single-occupancy bedrooms.
For each of the spaces listed below, University Housing is evaluating maximum occupancy levels allowed per fire code and following a social distancing requirement percentage of that number. Housing also is reducing the amount of furniture in these areas to allow for appropriate occupancy:
More extensive wiping down of areas and cleaning of these common spaces will take place, including lounges, classrooms, study rooms, common bathrooms, laundry rooms, elevators and kitchens in residence hall facilities. Housing has approximately 80 hand sanitizer locations in the five residence halls, with more on order to be installed.
University Housing is installing plastic shields at all front desk locations in all housing areas and will display appropriate signage inside and outside the facilities. University Housing will use barriers to guide residents in and out of facilities, and is considering single-entry and -exit points.
Some classes may be held in Residence Halls. Housing will work closely with Facilities Management in setting up spaces with proper social distancing (at least 6 feet).
There are currently 10 (1-bedroom) apartments in University Village and 100 bed spaces in Canyon Creek Heights North set aside for on-campus isolation if a student is symptomatic. These units will be partially furnished to provide a brief, comfortable stay. Housing staff will work closely with dining to deliver meals to the apartment for the student if they are on a meal plan or have no other food options available. Once a student leaves the unit, Housing will wait 72 hours prior to sending in a disinfecting team to the unit. Staff members also are working to identify off-campus hotels to provide off-campus isolation if necessary.
In accordance with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 
, students who are traveling to UT Dallas from international destinations, or students who have traveled to the U.S. from an international destination within 14 days of their move-in period will be required to quarantine off campus for 14 days prior to moving into their on-campus housing assignment.
Students will also be asked to provide University Housing with official documents, stating their date of arrival into the United States. These documents must be provided before they are allowed to move into their fall housing assignment. We may also ask students to provide the location that they choose to complete their quarantine requirements.
In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , students will be required to self-quarantine off campus for 14 days prior to moving into their on-campus housing assignment. Students also will need to provide University Housing with official documents that state their date of arrival into the United States. These documents must be provided before students are allowed to move into their fall assignments. UT Dallas Housing may also ask students to provide the location where they choose to complete self-quarantine requirements. For students’ convenience, UTD has negotiated student rates with several hotels near campus. Students will be responsible for making their own reservations and paying for their stay. Students will be required to clean their own rooms and bathroom facilities regularly. On their roommate agreement document, all residents will agree on cleaning assignments. They also will acknowledge on the roommate agreement that regular cleaning will take place by all roommates. Regular cleaning requirements will be randomly checked every three to four weeks by Housing staff.

Students who are unable to wear a face covering in accordance with the policy should contact the Dean of Students office (DOS) at [email protected]. The DOS will provide guidance regarding the process for submitting an exception request, and will review submissions to make a determination on a case-by-case basis. Documentation from the treating physician will be required for medical exceptions.
The number of guests allowed in a room may be reduced to address campus response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students living in University Housing are strongly discouraged from leaving the university area for the duration of the semester to limit exposure to those they visit elsewhere and limit the exposure they may bring back to the campus. If students do leave University Housing and suspect they have been exposed to COVID-19, the student will be required to report this exposure to the appropriate UTD Housing staff member. Students who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to self-isolate at home off-campus or in a location designated by University Housing for a period of time recommended by UTD.
