Haiku Contest 2021 – We Have a Winner!


In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Eugene McDermott Library proudly hosts an annual haiku contest every April asking UT Dallas students to flex their literary skills with a poem about their library.

There were many creative and inspiring poems submitted this year. The Library’s votes are in, and the winner is…

Bookshelves Full of Gold…
Mining for the Soul. Ink flows
elegantly… bold.

 

Kairi Reid is an avid reader and writer, and just finished his Junior year in Economics! His favorite poets are Langston Hughes, Edgar Allen Poe, Amiri Baraka, T.S. Elliot, Maya Angelou, John Milton, Gwendolyn Brooks, Saul Williams, Sonia Sanchez, and Terrence Hayes.

Kairi has won a McDermott Library goodie bag and his place in the history of our contest. Great job, Kairi, and to the rest of our creative contributors!
