UT Dallas Named a Best Value in Higher Education by Princeton Review
New List Recognizes University for Academics, Affordability, Graduation Rates and Career Outcomes

In a profile of UT Dallas in The Princeton Review‘s Best Value Colleges, the campus is described as a melting pot of diverse, friendly students who are “open about the geeky side in everyone.” UT Dallas ranks among the nation’s best for its return on investment for students, according to the Review.

For the seventh straight year, The University of Texas at Dallas was selected by The Princeton Review for its list of Best Value Colleges — academically outstanding colleges that guide students to rewarding careers without burdening them with excessive debt.

The annual publication, first released in 2004, catalogs 200 colleges chosen based on institutional and student survey data, covering scholastic rigor, affordability, career outcomes for graduates and more. UT Dallas also was listed as a top-25 destination for undergraduate programs in game design and entrepreneurship.

As our community grows, our qualities become more and more apparent — our diversity, our focus on early research opportunities, our cutting-edge programs. When you invest in an education at UT Dallas, we invest in you in return, and the results speak for themselves.

“We are appreciative that Princeton Review has recognized the momentum we continue to build in making UT Dallas a compelling choice for bright, young minds,” said Dr. Jessica C. Murphy, dean of undergraduate education, the Mary McDermott Cook Chair for Undergraduate Education and a professor of literary studies at UT Dallas.

“As our community grows, our qualities become more and more apparent — our diversity, our focus on early research opportunities, our cutting-edge programs. When you invest in an education at UT Dallas, we invest in you in return, and the results speak for themselves,” she said.

The Review uses a return on investment rating that weighs more than 40 data points, including academics, costs, financial aid, graduation rates, student debt, and career and salary data.

“I’ve always been told by alumni that my UT Dallas degree will only increase in value over time, and to me, that’s no surprise,” said sophomore Carla Ramazan, student government vice president and a Eugene McDermott Scholar. “This school offers incredible opportunities to anyone who is looking for them. From having the chance to work with highly dedicated faculty and staff to sharing a campus with some of the brightest students in the nation, the possibilities here are limitless.”

The book’s profile of UT Dallas includes quotes from students describing the University as “one of the best tech schools around” and praising the “responsive and invested” administration for facilitating the University’s continual growth. The faculty is described as genuinely passionate about their subjects, providing a sizeable amount of opportunities for active involvement in research.

Worthy Recognitions

UT Dallas has been touted for its high value by other renowned publications including U.S. News & World Report, Forbes and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.

Princeton Review quotes attendees describing a melting pot of diverse, “exceptionally nice” students who are “open about the geeky side in everyone.”

UT Dallas was joined by The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University and the University of Houston as the four Lone Star State selections among the 63 public schools on the list.

“Only 7 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges made it,” noted lead author Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief. “We salute them for their stellar academics and generous aid awards to students. They also provide their undergrads with career services from day one, plus strong networks of alumni connections.”

In September, UT Dallas was ranked 61st in the nation among public universities, and second in Texas public schools in terms of selectivity, by the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. In Forbes’ 2018 list of America’s Best Value Colleges, the University ranked third among public universities in Texas.
