Planned Power and Steam Outages December 18-23

December 7, 2020

Steam will be cut off to campus starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18. It will be restored on Wednesday, December 23.

Electricity will be shut down to perform critical annual preventative maintenance to the campus electrical distribution systems on:

  • Monday, December 21, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, December 22, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Please take the necessary precautions to ensure that any of your equipment on campus will not be affected during these outages.

Sidewalk and Lot Closures Around the Bioengineering Science Building and Callier Center Richardson Through February 2021

November 16, 2020

Sidewalks around the Bioengineering Science Building (BSB), the Natural Science and Engineering Research Lab (RL), Callier Center Richardson (CR) and the Callier Center Richardson Addition (CRA) will be closed as part of the Campus Landscape Improvement Project.

On the south side of CRA, a temporary sidewalk will connect the building’s south entrance to the sidewalk along North Loop Rd.

Several parking spots on the west end of Lot N will be closed, and the northwest entrance to CR will be blocked, but a temporary wheelchair ramp will added near the center of that lot.

This project is expected to be finished some time in February 2021.

South Rutford Ave. Closure Through May 2021

November 10, 2020

A section of Rutford Ave. between Karl Hoblitzelle Hall (HH) and Engineering and Computer Science North (ECSN) will be closed between November 10, 2020, and May 2021.

Another section of Rutford Ave., between Engineering and Computer Science West (ECSW) and Engineering and Computer Science South (ECSS) extending down to Franklyn Jenifer Dr., will be closed between November 15, 2020, and May 2021.

A pedestrian path crossing Rutford Ave. on the north end of this construction zone will open on January 19, 2021.

A pedestrian path between HH and ECSW leading to the east entrance of Karl Hoblitzelle Hall will remain open during the construction.

Green Hall Sidewalk Closures Through May 2021

September 10, 2020

Sidewalks to the east and south of Cecil H. Green Hall (GR) will be closed in three phases as part of the Campus Landscape Enhancement Project between now and May 26, 2021.

Phase I

Phase I of this project will be closed first. During this time, visitors parking in Lot A should use the lot’s southern exits and come over the bridge to reach Green Hall.

Phase II

When Phase I work is completed, Phase I will open and Phase II will be closed off. During Phase II, the east doors of Green Hall will be blocked; You will need to use the north and south entrances during this phase of work.

Phase III

When work is completed on Phase II, it will open and Phase III will be closed.

This project is expected to be finished sometime in May 2021.

Central Rutford Ave. and Surrounding Land Closure Through May 2021

August 19, 2020

A section of Rutford Ave. and the surrounding land on both sides of it will be closed as part of the Campus Landscape Enhancement Project. The affected area extends between Classroom Building 2 (CB2), Classroom Building 3 (CB3), Arts and Humanities 2 (AH2), the Energy Plant (EP), the Science Learning Center (SLC) and Lloyd V. Berkner Hall (BE).

Concrete Repairs on Rutford Ave. from September 10 - October 10

August 19, 2020

A section of Rutford Ave. stretching from Synergy Park Blvd. to the entrance of Lot T will be closed for concrete repairs from September 10 through October 10.

Planned Power Outage on August 1

July 29, 2020

Electricity will be shut down on Saturday, August 1, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in order to perform emergency repairs on the campus electrical distribution systems.

This outage will only affect the following buildings:

  • Administration Building (AD)
  • Classroom Building (CB)
  • Cecil H. Green Hall (GR)
  • Cecil and Ida Green Center (GC)
  • Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO)
  • North Office Building (NB)
  • North Lab (NL)
  • Machine Shop
  • Parking Structure 3 (PS3)
  • Physics Building (PHY) and Physics Annex (PHA)
  • Sciences Building (SCI)
  • Science Learning Center (SLC)
  • Student Services Building (SSB) and Student Services Building Addition (SSA)
  • Student Union (SU)
  • Theatre (TH)

For safety, no one will be allowed to enter the affected buildings during the outages.

Emergency power will be available at all the usual locations.

Anyone with equipment in these buildings should take the necessary precautions to ensure it will not be affected during the shutdown. Please make sure that all computers and any sensitive equipment are turned off or on emergency power to prevent the loss of critical information.

Planned Power Outage on July 19

July 14, 2020

We are planning on having two electrical outages on Sunday, July 19, in order to replace electrical distribution equipment in the Founders North (FN) basement. Founders North will be without power for approximately 14 hours while this work is being completed.

The first outage will begin around 6:00 a.m. and last until approximately 7:30 a.m.

The second outage will begin around 8:00 p.m. and last until approximately 8:30 p.m.

Both outages will affect the northern campus core buildings:

  • Administration Building (AD)
  • Classroom Building (CB)
  • Founders North (FN) —no power for ~14 hours
  • Cecil H. Green Hall (GR)
  • Cecil and Ida Green Center (GC)
  • Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO)
  • North Office Building (NB)
  • North Lab (NL)
  • Machine Shop
  • Parking Structure 3 (PS3)
  • Physics Building (PHY) and Physics Annex (PHA)
  • Sciences Building (SCI)
  • Science Learning Center (SLC)
  • Student Services Building (SSB) and Student Services Building Addition (SSA)
  • Student Union (SU)
  • Theatre (TH)

Loop Road Repairs Impact Lot J

The section of Loop Road crossing through Lot J will be closed for concrete repairs from July 6-19. An alternate route through the lot will be available during this time. Weather permitting, the work should be completed by July 20.

Geology Corridor Sidewalk Closure

June 17, 2020

Parts of the sidewalk between the Science Learning Center (SLC) and Lloyd V. Berkner Hall (BE), and between Founders North (FN) and the Founders Building (FO), will be closed at various times from June 2020 through December 2020 for the Campus Landscape Improvement Project. The north-south sidewalk between SLC, BE, FN and FO will remain open.

Rutford Avenue Closure Update

June 16, 2020

Rutford Ave. from Drive D to North Loop Rd., and Drive E on the south side of Parking Structure 3 (PS3) will be closed through January 2021.

The west side of the intersection of Drive D and Rutford Road is blocked to vehicle traffic.

Drive D will still be accessible to pedestrian traffic.

Part of the parking lot south of west of University Village Phase 9 (P9) and south of Residence Hall South along Rutford Ave. will be converted into a pedestrian path, connecting University Housing to Drive D and the Sciences Building (SCI) courtyard.

Canyon Creek Heights South Lot Closed for Expansion

The parking lot serving Canyon Creek Heights South (CH6) is closed to all but a few residents’ vehicles while the lot is expanded to the south and east. This expansion will add 103 parking spaces to the lot. Weather permitting, this project is expected to be completed by July 15. View in the University Map >

Residence Hall North Parking Lot Temporarily Closed

New Permanent Road and Parking Lot Closures

Power Outages on March 14 & 15

March 4, 2020

Electricity will be shut down to perform critical preventative maintenance to the campus electrical distribution system. This will come in the form of two outages:

The first outage will occur on Saturday morning, March 14, from 6:00 a.m. until approximately 7:30 a.m. It will affect the buildings listed below.

The Founders North (FN) building will be without power for approximately 36 hours while the work is being completed.

The second outage will take place on Sunday evening, March 15, from 6:00 p.m. until approximately 7:30 p.m.
