Scenario 4: What do I do if my direct report is a contact of a close contact?

Close Contact: For COVID-19, a close contact is defined as any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated regardless of face covering. (definition provided by CDC ).

An individual would be a contact of a close contact if they were within six feet of a close contact (definition above) for 15 minutes or more. The individual would not have been exposed directly to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

If your direct report is a contact of a close contact, they should monitor their symptoms and continue reporting to work. If they develop symptoms, please follow the guidelines for Scenario 2: My direct report is exhibiting symptoms.

Reinforce social distancing and proper personal hygiene protocols in your unit.
